
About University of Birmingham

Founded in 1900, the University of Birmingham is a truly international university with around 9,000 international students from 150 different countries and overall 37,000 students. It is ranked in the top 100 in the world (87th QS World Ranking 2020) and consistently in the top 20 in the UK (13th in the Complete University Guide 2020). Our subjects are well-ranked in the UK, and globally, with the following subjects featuring in the top 50 in the QS World Rankings: Education, English Language, International Development, Sport, and Dentistry.
The University offers a range of subjects from foundation and Bachelors to Masters and PhD programmes. There are five Colleges teaching subjects such as Marketing, Education, Finance, Law, Medicine, International Development, Computer Science and Engineering. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework confirmed Birmingham's position amongst top research universities with 81% of research rated as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ and we were ranked in the top five for research in a range of subjects including Chemical Engineering, History, Sport and Philosophy.
Based on a beautiful green campus in the centre of England, students benefit from on university accommodation, modern teaching facilities, computer suites, a 24 hour library and sports facilities. We continue to invest in campus facilities with the library, sports centre and track, accommodation blocks and laboratory facilities all built in the last five years.
The university campus is located 4 kilometres from the city centre of Birmingham and has a train station on campus so travel is easy – it takes less than 10 minutes to get to Birmingham New Street station. Birmingham International Airport is close to the city centre offering a range of options to fly in to the city from Taiwan and to travel around the UK and Europe whilst living at the University.

University of Birmingham Rankings
Already ranked in the top 100 global universities in the 2021 QS World University Rankings at 87th, Birmingham has climbed five places in the 2021 THE World University Rankings to 107th globally. The 2020 rankings saw the University rise four places to 112th.
This year also sees the University’s THE ranking in the UK rise from 13th to 12th.
Birmingham’s latest rankings success.follows a further rise in the number of citations and increasing recognition of the quality of teaching, as well as the University maintaining the reputation of its research.
